Ringtone Maker by Mobile 17 (Free) is different from many other free ringtone apps in that it lets you create ringtones up to 40 seconds long -- most free apps have a limit of 30 seconds. I put this app to the test to see how it stacks up to our other favorite ringtone apps. 

Create 40-second ringtones

Unlike the Myxer Ringtones app, Ringtone Maker doesn’t include a catalog of preset ringtones.

Rather, you create all ringtones from your existing iTunes library. However, Ringtone Maker does have a nifty feature that I really like: when you select a song from your library, the app automatically brings up popular edits from other users, in addition to related tracks. That’s a nice feature to have that can really save you time. 

The interface is user friendly, and I had no problems editing my ringtone to the selected length. I still have yet to test a ringtone app whose interface I like as much as Ringtone Designer Pro, but Ringtone Maker is certainly easy to use. My ringtones were saved as they should be, and transferring the ringtones to my iPhone only took a few seconds. 

Like all ringtone apps, you’ll need to sync with iTunes to transfer the ringtones to your iPhone. Once you learn how to do it, the process goes rather quickly. If you get stuck, the Ringtone Maker app includes a tutorial. The app includes ads, but you can upgrade to the paid version for US$0.99 to get rid of them.

 

The Bottom Line

If you don’t mind ads, the free Ringtone Maker app is a great alternative to paid ringtone apps. The user-friendly interface makes it easy to edit your ringtones, and I love that the app brings up popular edits (if available) for the songs you select. Overall rating: 5 stars out of 5.
