How to Do Maintenance on a Singer Stylist 534 Sewing Machine
- 1). Unplug the sewing machine from the wall outlet.
- 2). Unscrew the top body cover of the sewing machine by removing the two screws, one on each end, with the screwdriver provided in the Singer sewing machine tool kit. The cover on a Stylist is only on the top. If the machine needs repairs, you will need to remove the body cover.
- 3). Clean the body by spraying a can of compressed air into the spaces between the upper gears, cleaning out the lint and dust.
- 4). Rub the gears with a methylated cloth to remove dust and lint that did not get blown out. As the width of the Singer Stylist leaves space for your hand, you can reach inside to wipe down the gears.
- 5). Place droplets of oil on the gears and in the oil wells. The oil wells are small holes in metal bars that lead to the gears below.
- 6). Remove the side body cover by removing the screws on the arm, top left and bottom left with the screwdriver. The larger gears and belt that connects the needle shaft to the wheel are located here. Replace any gears on which the teeth seem dulled or worn down. Check the belt to make sure it is not worn down and replace it if it is.
- 7). Replace the covers and the screws by screwing them back in with the screwdriver.
- 1). Open the left arm cover by swinging it away from you to the bobbin case and the tool section, which is specific to the Stylist.
- 2). Blow compressed air into the bobbin case to remove all dust, lint and bits of thread from around the shuttle and gears. The bobbin case is horizontal, so when you use the can of compressed air, the lint and thread bits should easily blow out.
- 3). Wipe the needle shaft and inside of the bobbin case with the methylated cloth. Remove the shuttle from the bobbin case and wipe that as well.
- 4). Add droplets of oil into the gears and oil wells in the bobbin case.
- 5). Replace the shuttle to the bobbin case and close the side cover by pulling it forward. Whe you hear the click of the snap, it is closed.
- 6). Turn the wheel on the right of the machine toward you until the needle shaft has run through two cycles. This will work the oil through the machine.
