Homemade Coffee Can Wood Burner
- 1). Remove the top from a large metal coffee can. File the edge around the opening so it's not sharp. Remove the label, wash the can and dry it well.
- 2). Drill a series of eight evenly spaced air holes around the can. Make the holes ¼ inch in diameter and centered ¾ inch from the bottom.
- 3). Drill a large 4-inch hole in one side of the can. Center this hole halfway between the bottom and top. Alternatively, you can draw a 4-inch square on the can and drill a ¼-inch hole at each corner. Use tin snips to cut out the square. File the edges of this hole so it's not sharp.
- 4). Drill two 1/8-inch holes centered ¾ inches from the top of the can and 3 inches apart. Drill two more holes in corresponding positions on the opposite side of the can.
- 5). Cut two lengths of a wire coat hanger slightly longer than the coffee can's diameter. They should be long enough to be inserted through the holes you made in the previous step, to form a cooking grate.
