How to Upgrade a Graphics Card for a Toshiba A55-5326
- 1). Turn off your laptop, and then disconnect the power cable from its socket. Disconnect any miscellaneous cables or external devices from your laptop. Close the LCD screen, and then place the laptop face-down. Push on the retaining latch securing the battery to its compartment. Lift the battery pack out of its compartment and set it aside.
- 2). Disconnect the single Phillips-head screws securing the hard drive, modem, RAM and wireless card cover to the bottom casing of the laptop.
- 3). Locate the hard drive in the bottom left-hand corner of the laptop casing. Slide the hard drive to the left to disconnect it from the motherboard, and then remove the hard drive from the laptop and set it aside.
- 4). Locate the RAM modules located near the center of the laptop casing. Push on the retaining tabs on either side of the RAM module, and then slide the module out of its memory compartment and set it aside. Repeat this step for each memory module you remove.
- 5). Disconnect the two antenna cables from the wireless card located below the RAM compartment. Spread the latches on each side of the wireless card, and then remove it from the laptop and set it aside.
- 6). Remove the two Phillips-head screws securing the modem to the bottom right-hand corner of the laptop casing. Lift the modem out of the laptop and set it aside.
- 7). Remove all visible remaining Phillips-head screws from the bottom casing of the laptop.
- 8). Place the laptop face-up, and then open the LCD screen as far as it will go. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to pry up the keyboard bezel from the right side. The keyboard bezel is a thin strip of plastic located between the keyboard and the LCD screen. Remove the bezel and set it aside.
- 9). Remove the three Phillips-head screws securing the keyboard to the laptop base. Lift up on the top edge of the keyboard closest to the LCD screen. Place the keyboard face-down over the laptop's palm rest. Disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the motherboard. Remove the keyboard from the laptop base.

Remove the two Phillips-head screws securing the metal plate covering the keyboard connector on the motherboard. Remove the plate, and then set it aside. The right screw on the plate also secures the optical drive. Slide the optical drive out of its compartment and set it aside. - 11
Disconnect the switchboard cable from the motherboard, and then remove the single Phillips-head screw securing the switchboard panel to the top of the laptop casing near the LCD screen. Remove the switchboard panel and set it aside. - 12
Remove the two Phillips-head screws securing each LCD hinge cover to the laptop. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry up and remove the hinge covers. - 13
Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the video cable bracket to the laptop. Remove the bracket and set it aside. Disconnect the video cable from the graphics card on the laptop. - 14
Locate the speaker, touchpad and antenna cables located above the palm rest near the center of the laptop casing. Disconnect each cable from their respective connectors on the motherboard. - 15
Remove the two Phillips-head screws locating diagonal from each other near the center of the upper laptop casing. These screws are the last remaining screws securing the upper casing to the base of the laptop. - 16
Separate the upper casing assembly from the laptop base by lifting from behind the LCD hinges. Work your way to the front of the laptop until the entire upper casing of the laptop is removed from the base. Set it aside. - 17
Locate the graphics card situated below the cooling fan on the upper left-hand corner of the motherboard. Remove the three Phillips-head screws securing the graphics card to the motherboard, and then remove it and set it aside. - 18
Repeat the previous steps in reverse to install the new graphics card and reassemble the laptop.
