- 1). Power off the iPhone and remove the SIM tray, which is located on the top side of the phone, next to the headphone jack. An unfolded paper clip slid into the small hole will push the tray out for removal.
- 2). Locate and remove the two Phillips screws from the bottom of the phone, located on either side of the docking connector. Use a screwdriver to do this. Mark and store these screws for later use.
- 3). Carefully remove the display from the base of the iPhone using a suction cup, or tape adhered near the home button. The LED display is still attached at the top with cables, so do not open the screen to more than a 45-degree angle.
In the upper right-hand corner of the iPhone, you will see four marked, black ribbon cables. Holding the phone, disconnect the cable labeled "1" and "2." - 4). Open the screen wider to reveal ribbon "3." Unclip and remove the entire display panel.
- 5). Locate two screws on each side on the display screen. Remove these, and store. The LCD is now free from the glass.
- 1). Remove seven screws, including one hidden under the "Do Not Remove" sticker, with a screwdriver. Mark and store these safely, and remove the final ribbon, labeled "4."
- 2). Lift the motherboard from the casing and set aside. The battery underneath is easily lifted out by the attached tab.
- 3). Remove the small screw, which is visible now that the battery has been removed, with a screwdriver and carefully detach the ribbon connecting the camera to the casing. Set the camera unit aside.
- 4). Remove the nine additional screws located around the camera using the screwdriver. These screws secure the headphone jack and flexible cable. Lift out the jack.
- 5). Lift out the speaker assembly containing the dock connector, antennae and home button. This will reveal two additional screws securing the vibrator assembly. Detach these with the screwdriver and remove.
