How to Care for a Prefinished Wood Floor
- 1). Sweep wood floors daily with a soft bristle broom to remove any dirt or debris.
- 2). Vacuum floors with a soft floor attachment if your flooring has spaces where debris collects.
- 3). Moisten a mop lightly with warm water when mopping is necessary. Most wood floors need to be mopped only occasionally. Damp mopping should be used as opposed to wet mopping. Too much water can damage the wood and dull the finish.
- 4). Wipe up spills as soon as they occur.
- 5). Place plastic or fabric glides on the legs of furniture to prevent scuffing your wood floors.
- 6). Turn on a humidifier during the winter months to keep the wood flooring from shrinking.
- 7). Place area rugs in front off all doors to collect dirt and debris that could scratch or dent the floors.
- 8). Repair scratches with a touch-up kit, available from wood flooring retailers.
