How to Create Glitter
- 1). Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. If you don't have access to an oven, you can always let your glitter air dry instead, but it takes much longer. The oven is definitely the best way to go.
- 2). Measure 1 tbsp. salt into a small bowl. Mix in 1/8 tsp. of your favorite food coloring. Double or triple the ingredients if you need more of one color. Mix, mix, mix until all the salt is evenly covered with the same shade. You can mix colors as well to get more exotic shades.
- 3). Lay a sheet of tinfoil down on a cookie sheet to protect the metal and make clean-up much easier. Then spread the colored salt all over the tinfoil. Spread it out as much as possible. It will dry much quicker if it isn't clumped together.
- 4). Put the pan of colored salt into your preheated oven. It only needs about 10 minutes to dry with the heat. Once you take the glitter out of the oven, wait for it to cool and then break up the clumps with the back of a spoon.
- 5). Store whatever glitter you don't use in a salt shaker. Of course you could put it in a storage bag or container, but don't worry about eating it. As long as you use edible food coloring, you can still eat the salt. In fact, make some green salt up for Halloween, pink and red for Valentine's day, and red with blue for Independence Day.
