    • 1). Get a piece of foam core cut at your local craft store. Foam core is the best backing board for this technique because it is rigid, reusable and acid free. Have it made to fit the interior of your frame. Measure correctly so there is enough room on your piece to fit it.

    • 2). Center your needlework on the board. Flip it over. You may need to iron the piece if it is wrinkled.

    • 3). Thread your needle with the string. Use a good arm length's.

    • 4). Begin by creating the anchor in one corner. Make a knot and double it over.

    • 5). Begin the lacing. Bring the needle through the opposite corner. Draw the string through. Pull the string through 2 inches above the knot. Lace the stitches 2 inches from each other until you reach the other side. The string should be taught.

    • 6). Lace the opposite direction. Make the pivot at the corner at go to the opposite, bring it back to the side where you pivoted 2 inches from the corner. Continue to zigzag the stitches.

    • 7). Tie off the end at the knot, wrap it around and double it over. Clip the string with the scissors.
