How to Put a New Motherboard in a Dell Gx 150

    • 1). Shut down the Dell Gx 150. Remove all of the cables and peripheral devices attached to the computer's ports and then set the Gx 150's case on its side.

    • 2). Tap your fingers against the unpainted metal tabs on the back of the Gx 150's case to release the static electricity stored in your hands. Press in the plastic release buttons on either side of the computer's access panel.

    • 3). Lift the access panel up to a 45-degree angle so you can view the hard drive and optical drive cables. Reach inside the case and unplug the two cables from the motherboard.

    • 4). Lift the access panel up to about a 90-degree angle, until it locks into place. Unplug the cable connected to the back of the power supply. Remove the two locking screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver and then push in the power supply release latch.

    • 5). Pull the power supply out of the Gx 150's case. Lift up the plastic cage positioned over the expansion card ports. Pull up the plastic securing arm and then lift the PCI slot off the expansion card port.

    • 6). Pull back the tabs on the right and left ends of the first memory module. Lift the module upwards and set it aside. Repeat the process with the second memory module.

    • 7). Disconnect the cable running from the motherboard to the processor's cooling fan. Press down on the green locking tab located at the side of the cooling fan. Remove the Gx 150's cooling fan and set it aside.

    • 8). Pull up on the processor socket's release latch. Lift the processor off the Gx 150 motherboard. Remove the screws at the corners of the motherboard.

    • 9). Slide the motherboard to the left until the back ports disengage from the holes on the back of the Gx 150's case. Remove the motherboard and then position the replacement motherboard in the case.

      Assemble the processor, cooling fan, memory modules, PCI card, expansion card cage, and power supply. Push the access panel back down to the 45 degree angle and attach the cables to the hard drive and optical drive.

      Push the access panel down until the locking buttons snap into place. Plug the cables back into the ports on the back of the Gx 150 computer.
