    Granite

    • Granite is an extremely durable surface for your kitchen counter. Composed of quartz and mica, it is impervious to water and scratch-resistant. Granite is also heat-resistant and can withstand hot pots without staining the counter. The speckled look of granite contains many different colors and designs, allowing you to easily coordinate the counter with the existing kitchen decor. Because granite has become more popular, the cost of installation has gone down, making it more affordable for everyone.

    Soapstone

    • Soapstone is stain-resistant. Soft to touch, soapstone colors are composed of greens, tans, grays, whites, and blacks. The colors are speckled throughout the counter creating a rustic and simple appearance. Soapstone is treated with mineral oil to protect the surface from scratches and stains as well as to deepen the color in the stone. For stains that penetrate the stone, you can simply sand them down, and reapply the mineral oil.

    Concrete

    • Concrete counters are heat and scratch-resistant, making them ideal for your kitchen. The concrete is poured into a cast, fitting any shaped kitchen counter. Concrete is ideal if your countertops are irregular with hard-to-reach corners. The concrete can be stained any color so you can match the stain to your existing kitchen design. Once the stain has been applied, a sealant is applied to seal the pores and prevent debris from penetrating the counter, as well as to prevent cracking.

    Wood

    • Wood creates a warm and rich look to your kitchen counter surface. Maple and oak, the typical wood used for kitchens, is durable and long-lasting. Wood counters can be stained in your favorite shade to match your kitchen, giving you creative freedom in your design. Sealing the wood block is essential for creating a long-lasting surface, as well as to prevent water stains and scratches. With a little sanding, a stain can be removed, making this an easy fix. For cleaning, you can use a simple water and detergent mix and the counters will look new. Wood can also be cut to any kitchen surface shape, which is perfect for irregular-shaped counters.

    Stainless Steel

    • Stainless steel creates a modern and industrial look to any kitchen. The silver surface is heat-resistant and very durable. Place a hot pan or pot on a stainless-steel counter without having to worry about burning the surface. Easy to clean and maintain, stainless steel can be used on any kitchen counter. Stainless steel cannot be used to cut on so make sure you have a proper cutting surface, such as a butcher block.

    Ceramic Tile

    • Affordable and easy to clean, ceramic tile is ideal for a high-traffic kitchen. Durable and heat-resistant, you can place hot pans on ceramic tile without damaging the surface. Ceramic tile comes in different tile shapes, designs, and colors to match your kitchen. The simple installation process makes it perfect for a weekend project.
Grout, which holds the tiles together, typically comes in white but can be stained to match your tiles, which is ideal to hide dirt and debris. Low maintenance, ceramic tiles will last a lifetime.
