How to Make a Fluorescent Grow Light
- 1). Using a drill bit around two-thirds the thickness of the molly bolts, drill two holes in the ceiling at what will be the center point of the fixture, directly above the area where the plants will be placed.
- 2). Push the molly bolts into the holes using a hammer if necessary. A tighter fit is better and will help the fixture to stay in place. Screw the cup hooks into the molly bolts.
- 3). Measure the distance from the ceiling to the growing surface, and ensure that each chain is twice this length. Attach the center of each chain to the cup hooks.
- 4). Put the S hooks on the chains at a position that will hold the fixture level. While it is not crucial that the light fixture is completely level, the more level it is, the more even the growth.
- 5). If there are no holes in the metal of the fixture already, drill some a little larger than the S hooks. Hook the fixture on to the S hooks and adjust the height of the light as necessary by moving the S hooks.
