    • 1). Fill a sprayer with concrete stain mixed with water. The amount of water added will determine the intensity of the color. Try a lighter color first to see if you like it.

    • 2). Set up a piece of sample concrete and spray it lightly with the stain.

    • 3). Splash denatured alcohol across the stained area while it is still wet. Do not wait for it to dry. Once you splash on the alcohol, allow the surface to dry. It should be dry in a few hours. Where the alcohol landed will be a darker more intense color than the rest of the concrete. Practice on the sample concrete several times to get the splash technique down in the pattern you desire.

    • 4). Spray the alcohol on the stain in a separate spray bottle to try a different application technique. Simply spray over the stained area, or lay a pattern down so that only certain areas were coated. You could use a stencil or tape off areas so that they are not coated with the alcohol.

    • 5). Coat the entire surface of the patio with the stain if you are using a large stencil or taping off a pattern over the whole patio. You can then switch to the alcohol and spray the entire surface all at once. If you are splashing the the alcohol on, it is up to you on how much space you work with at one time. If you are fast, you can spray the whole surface and then splash the alcohol around. But if you are slower, you should coat a small area of a few square feet at a time.
