Ideas for Memory Quilts
- Handprints are one option for a memory quilt and can be done a variety of ways. Ideas include using handprints to make assorted designs and images, including animals, such as turkeys, doves or bunnies, faces, suns and trees. If making a memory quilt based on family members or a certain group of friends, have each friend or family member make a handprint in her chosen color and sign the handprint with black marker.
- Photo memory quilts are another idea that provide a variety of options. You can transfer the photo image to fabric sheets that can be used in your home printer. Use old black and white photos to depict a family tree or make a memory quilt of favorite vacation photos or one vacation in particular, such as a honeymoon. Memory quilts using photos from certain events is another option, such as a graduation photo memory quilt, wedding memory quilt, retirement party, baby's first birthday, music festival experience, birthday party or other special event.
- Use cards from assorted events to make memory quilts, such as sympathy cards after the death of a loved one, which can be compiled and then given to the grieving family as a gift.
