Jewelry Supplies & Ideas
- Bracelets can be made quickly and simply. For beaded bracelets, you need beads, jewelry wire or thread, a bracelet clasp and jewelry pliers, if you're using wire. Cut a length of jewelry wire or thread so that it fits around your wrist to the desired looseness. Tie or wrap the end of the wire around the ring of one side of the clasp and string the beads on the thread or wire. Leave 1/4 inch at the end to tie or wrap onto the other end of the clasp. To make a three-string beaded bracelet, tie all three strings to the clasp on one end. Slide the beads onto all three strings before attaching the strings to the clasp at the other end.
- Earrings are a versatile jewelry craft because you can make all kinds of designs. You need some jewelry wire, beads, earring wires and jewelry pliers. String the beads in different patterns, lengths and colors onto jewelry wire and wrap the end of the jewelry wire around the loop at the end of the earring wire. Be creative by incorporating vintage beads or various wire shapes into the dangling part of the earring.
- Charm anklets allow you to create interesting themes for any outfit. You need jewelry chain with large links, jump rings for connecting parts, beads, charms, clasps and jewelry pliers with metal cutters. Cut a length of chain to loosely wrap around your ankle and attach the two parts of the clasp to the ends of the chain with a jump ring on each end. Use jump rings to attach beads and charms to the chain links. Leave at least a 1/2-inch space between them to avoid creating a cluttered anklet. Try doing color themes, like shades of pink, or seasonal themes using beach or winter charms.
- Rather than just piecing together parts of the jewelry, with pendants, you're creating the shape and style of the main focus of a necklace. You can make pendants from molded resin or polymer clay. For polymer clay pendants, you need clay and an oven for baking them into shape. For resin pendants, you need a resin mixture, as well as a mold for the shape. Spraying a mold-release substance into the mold before pouring in the resin allows you to remove the pendant when you're done. Use translucent resins and put clovers or beads in them to create different looks.
