    Shower Curtain and Rings

    • Hanging a shower curtain from standard shower curtain rings on the corner closet tension rod simplifies the task of pulling aside the curtain to access the closet. Bed and bath stores stock many curtain and ring styles. Using a plain curtain that matches the room's wall color diminishes the corner closet's impact. Unusual decorative rings provide a subtle accent. If you want to make the closet a decorative accent, choose a curtain with a decorative print that contrasts with the room's color. Adding a ruffle or band of plain fabric to a shower curtain's top or bottom makes it long enough for to cover the closet space. To easily add a band at the curtain's top, cut off the rings portion from the top and sew it back on after you add the band.

    Curtains with Casings

    • Any fabric can be used to make a simple curtain with a casing. A casing does not slip along a tension rod as easily as rings, and so creating two panels, one on each side, provides easier access. Making a casing curtain begins with hemming the sides and bottom, and then folding down 1/2 inch of fabric at the top. Fold down another 2 1/2 inches at the top to make a casing, and sew the casing in place, stitching 1/8 inch from the lower fold. Adding tie-backs on each side provides a way to hold the curtains out of the way when you use the closet.

    Covered Upper Shelf

    • Installing a second tension rod and hanging a curtain on it to cover the shelf above the corner closet creates the appearance of a valance and hides the shelf storage space. The top curtain's hem should be 1 inch below the holes of the lower curtain or 1 inch below the lower casing curtain's seam. Add a couture touch with a row of decorative trim along the top curtain's hem.

    Upper Shelf Decor

    • Leaving the corner closet's upper shelf uncovered gives the room a more open appearance than when that part is covered. Decorative items such as books or vases can line the upper shelf. If you need that shelf for storage space, however, then place attractive suitcases on the shelf; they could store out-of-season clothes. Putting a stack of square baskets or hatboxes on the upper shelf is an appealing way to store small items you seldom use.
