    • 1). Remove the hex bolt that attached the knob to the reel, using an adjustable hex wrench. Insert the hex wrench over the hex bolt and turn the bolt in a counterclockwise direction. Different reels use different bolts and screws. Remove the screws and bolts with an adjustable wrench or screwdriver.

    • 2). Lift the knob off the spindle joint. Store the knob in a container for future use.

    • 3). Measure the size of the hex bolt of the reel, using a tape measure. For example, the hex bolt has 1/4-inch sides. For other shaped bolts and screws, measure the sides of the bolts or the diameter of the screws.

    • 4). Insert a chuck key into the chuck lock near the chuck of a cordless power drill. The chuck is the locking mechanism that holds drill bits and drill heads in place. The chuck key is normally attached to the drill. Turn the chuck key in a counterclockwise direction to open the chuck clasps.

    • 5). Insert a hex drill head that matches your bolt measurement into the drill. Turn the chuck key in a clockwise direction to close the chuck clasps. The hex drill head is locked to the drill.

    • 6). Press the direction button to change the direction of the drill to match the direction of the reel. Change the speed settings to the “Low” setting on the drill. Press the trigger of the cordless drill to reel in the line of the fishing rod electronically.
