How to Remodel Kitchen Cupboards
- 1). Unscrew the hinges of the kitchen cupboards with a screwdriver. Remove the hinges and the doors, and then remove the hinges from the doors. Mark and label each hinge and door with a pencil and a small piece of tape so you'll know where to find them.
- 2). Tape rosin paper to the countertops, using painter's tape, as protection from paint spills.
- 3). Clean the cupboards with water, a rag, and a household cleaner that removes grease.
- 4). Fill holes or dents in the cabinets with wood putty and a putty knife. Wait for the putty to dry.
- 5). Sand the kitchen cupboards lightly with fine-grit sandpaper. This will smooth out any bumps caused by the wood putty and roughen the finish on the cabinets. After sanding, wipe the cabinet with a tackcloth.
- 6). Prime the cupboards with a primer, a foam paint roller and a paintbrush. Avoid using the paintbrush on any large. flat surfaces because it will show brush strokes on the cabinetry. Apply the latex-based primer to the cupboards and allow them to dry completely.
- 7). Paint the cabinets and doors with latex paint. Again, use a foam paint roller on the large, flat surfaces and a paintbrush for the corners. Wait until the first coat has dried completely and apply a second coat. Allow the paint to cure for several days before reinstalling the doors on the cupboards.
