Drawer Pulls

• Visit your local home improvement store and you will find an endless selection of drawers pulls. Opt for drawer pulls that resemble handles. Check the pulls first, making sure that your hand fits comfortably through the pull. The drawer pulls are best suited for structured purses, such as a cigar box purse. The pulls come with screws for attaching to a drawer, but the screws are too large for the purse. Buy separate screws that are slightly shorter than the thickness of the purse. Simply place the drawer pull on the side of the purse and screw into place.
  
  

Recycled Leather

• Turn an old leather jacket or worn leather strips into a new handle for your purse. Cut the leather into pieces approximately 3 inches wide and as long as you need for the handles. Fold the leather in half lengthwise and stitch along the edge. Attach the handle to the purse by stitching along the edge of the leather strap. Arrange the straps they way you like: hiding the straps inside the purse, or displaying the straps on the outside of the purse.
  
  

Old Belts

• Use an old belt to make a funky strap for your purse. Cut the belt in half, leaving the belt buckle on the belt. Poke several holes in the end of the piece without the belt buckle. Stitch each end of the belt to one side of the purse. Slide the smooth end through the belt buckle and snap shut. The attached buckle lets you adjust the length of the strap as needed.
  
  

Printed Scarves

• Lay three scarves flat and braid the pieces together by moving the right side in between the left side and middle and then pushing the left side into the middle. Attach the braided scarf rope to the purse, stitching along the inside of the purse. Repeat the process with a second set of scarves, if you want a handle on each side of the purse.
