How to Unlock iPod Addresses From Wi-Fi
- 1). Tap on "Settings," then on "General" on the iPod touch. Tap on "About," then scroll down to "Wi-Fi Address." Make a note of the 12-digit hexadecimal number listed under that heading; that is the Medium Access Control address hardcoded into the iPod.
- 2). Connect your computer to a numbered port on the back of the wireless router, using the Ethernet cable.
- 3). Log in to the computer.
- 4). Launch a Web browser on the computer. Direct it to the router's configuration utility. The utility is listening at a specific Web address that depends on the router. For example, if your router is a Linksys WRT54GS, navigate to address "192.168.1.1".
- 5). Bring up the configuration menu for MAC address filtering. For example, on a WRT54GS, click "Wireless," then "Wireless MAC Filter."
- 6). Delete the iPod's MAC address from the list of banned addressed on the router's configuration utility. For example, on a WRT54GS, click on "Edit MAC Filter List." A new window will come up. Click twice on the field that contains the iPod's MAC address, then press "Backspace" to delete the field's contents. Click "Save Settings." The window will close. Click "Save Settings" again on the main browser window. At that point, your router will have been reconfigured to allow the iPod touch to join the network.
