- 1). Set the wood beam on the concrete platform. Make adjustments as needed to ensure the beam is in the correct spot. Place wedges or metal plating underneath the beam if it is too short.
- 2). Slip a girder tie-down up to the underside of the beam, allowing the upper tabs to slip around the sides. Press the bottom of the tie-down directly against the concrete under the beam.
- 3). Hammer 16d nails through the tie-down's side tabs and directly into the wood beam to hold it in place.
- 4). Insert a 3/16-inch masonry bit into the hammer drill. Drill 2-inch-deep holes into the concrete, using the tie-down's holes as a guide.
- 5). Blow out each drilled hole, using compressed air. Use a wire-bristle pipe brush to clean out the holes if you don't have compressed air.
- 6). Insert 1-¾-inch masonry screws through the tie-down and into the concrete wall. Tighten the masonry screws, using an electric screw gun equipped with a hex bit.
- 7). Hammer 16d nails through each of the tie-down's upper tabs' holes and directly into the wood beam.
