How to Seal Tile Backsplash

    • 1). Clean the backsplash tiles well with an appropriate cleanser. Use stone cleaner on stone tiles or glass cleaner on glass tiles to thoroughly remove any grease, oil or debris which could impede the tile's absorption of the sealer.

    • 2). Pour the sealant into a wide-mouthed dish or bowl. Dip a foam paintbrush into the sealer, allowing the brush to absorb some of the sealant, so it is saturated but not dripping.

    • 3). Apply the sealant to the backsplash tile from top to bottom to avoid drips or areas of excessive sealant. Work from left to right around the kitchen starting below the cabinets and sealing down to the counters, including caulk between the counter and the backsplash.

    • 4). Allow the sealer to penetrate for 10 minutes and then begin to wipe off excess with a lint-free cloth. Wipe away the sealer in the same order in which it was applied to avoid over drying on some tiles. Continue buffing tiles until they are dry and all traces of sealant have been removed.
