Splash Guard

• The basic protection against urine splashing back onto men and boys who use a toilet is a splash guard. This device is generally between approximately 3 and 4 inches wide and 2 or 3 inches high. Normally, you slide the splash guard onto the closed toilet seat before using the toilet and slide it back off after finishing. Although you can use it on public toilets, use care when touching a public toilet seat with your hands.
  
  

Plunger Splash Guard

• A plunger splash guard is not designed for use when you are using the toilet, but it's used when plunging the toilet to clear a clog. Unlike a regular splash guard that only deflects urine from a small range directly in front of the user, a plunger splash guard covers the entire bowl opening. It contains a small hole in the splash guard, through which the plunger rod fits, so you can raise and lower the plunger without the water, which is often filled with waste, splashing onto you or the floor.
  
  

Newspaper and Towels

• If you already have a toilet emergency that calls for you to use a plunger and you don't have a plunger splash guard, use household items to protect the floor area around the toilet. Drop old towels onto the floor around the toilet base or unfold newspaper sections and layer them on the floor around the toilet. These items only protect the floor from splashing water, however; you still need to wear gloves or old clothing to protect you and your clothes.
  
  

Shut the Lid

• You can sometimes -- but not always -- stop toilet water from splashing up onto your skin while sitting by placing small sections of toilet paper on the surface of the bowl water. Ssimply close the toilet seat lid each time before you flush, and The best way to keep water, waste and germs in the toilet is to close the lid before flushing.
