How to Paint a Treated Wood Deck Floor
- 1). Clean the deck thoroughly with a hard bristle brush and water. Allow the deck to fully dry before moving on. You can use soapy water but avoid soap with oils in it as the oil will sink into the wood.
- 2). Treat the deck with a paintable water repellent sealer before painting the wood surface. Wait for the water repellent sealer to dry before moving on. You can roll the sealer onto the deck using paint rollers or you can use an airless power sprayer.
- 3). Paint the wood with a semi-transparent stain using a roller or an airless power sprayer. Solid color stains or latex paint will likely peel off the wood surface quickly, whether the wood is treated or not. The use of semi-transparent stain will yield long-lasting results. To darken the look of the deck, apply several coats of stain. It will get darker with each subsequent coat of stain.
