DIY Basement Crack Repair
- 1). Remove any concrete debris from the crack. Take a screwdriver and gently rake it through the crack, dislodging any loose pieces of concrete. Brush out the area gently with a wire brush to get any small remaining particles.
- 2). Apply concrete patch. Use a putty knife to liberally fill the crack with the ready-made concrete patch. Modern patches require no mixing; simply trowel it into the crack. If the crack is more than 1 inch deep, apply 1 inch of patch at a time, waiting an hour between layers.
- 3). Smooth the concrete patch. Once the actual crack is fully filled with patch, add a thin layer over the top that radiates out about 3 inches on all sides. Smooth this layer out with the edge of the putty knife.
- 4). Paint or seal the concrete patch. After waiting overnight for the concrete patch layers to have completely cured, brush or roll on a concrete sealer or paint to match the surrounding area.
