How to Install a GE Profile Cooktop
- 1). Turn off the electrical power that runs to the outlet for the cooktop at the circuit breaker.
- 2). Flip the cooktop onto its face, and lay it down gently on a section of countertop or a table covered with a soft towel or blanket.
- 3). Lay the metal heat baffle over the bottom of the cooktop, and fasten it down with the provided screws and your screwdriver. If you are installing the cooktop over an oven, omit this step.
- 4). Run a bead of the foam tape all around the edge of the upturned cooktop. Do not overlap the tape ends at the corner joints.
- 5). Attach one mounting bracket to each side of the cooktop, turning the screws only enough to keep the brackets from falling out, but do not snug them down yet. Slide the brackets in toward the center of the cooktop.
- 6). Turn the cooktop right-side up, and gently guide it into the prepared counter opening, aligning the front of the cookop parallel with the line of the countertop edge.
- 7). Tighten down the bracket screws from beneath the cooktop with your drill or screwdriver.
- 8). Snug down the larger thumbscrew with your fingers until the screw just touches against the undercounter.
- 9). Connect the naked ground conductor wire and crimped green ground by twisting the two together. Twist together the cooktop red wire to to the red wire in the junction box. Link and twist the black cooktop wire with the black lead in the junction box. Secure each wire pairing with one of the three provided plastic wire nuts, and twist to secure.
