DIY Cat Mask
- 1). Cut the plaster cast tape into four-inch strips. You will need about 20 strips total. Lay them off to the side and do not allow them to get wet.
- 2). Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly on your face and hairline. This will make it easy to peel of any plaster tape that becomes stuck to the skin or hair later on.
- 3). Wet the strips of plaster cast tape in a bowl of water, one by one, and look in the mirror as you begin to apply them to your face. One side of the tape will have more plaster, and this side should be placed against the skin and overlapping other strips.
- 4). Begin by placing strips around the perimeter you desire for the mask, working first around the eyes and down the bridge of the nose, then moving to cover the cheeks and forehead. Leave the bottom part of your nose uncovered, since you will be constructing a cat nose there later.
- 5). Allow the plaster to dry on the face for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the dried mask by leaning forward and slowly working the mask off by moving your facial muscles and lightly pulling with your fingers.
- 6). Work on molding your ears and nose out of clay as the mask dries. Once you remove the mask, press the clay into the mask. These clay pieces will serve as a mold for your plaster so the ears and nose don't droop as they dry, but make sure the clay can be removed from behind the plaster once it dries. When the clay has been shaped just right, start applying strips of plaster cast tape to them and allow the whole mask to dry for 30 minutes.
- 7). Remove the clay from under the plaster. Let the entire mask dry for 24 hours.
- 8). Apply a paint primer to the mask to smooth it and ready it for painting. You can now apply paint, fur, pipe cleaner whiskers, glitter, and any other decorative pieces you desire. Staple a string to inside temples of the mask to hold it on.
