    • 1). Launch the iTunes software from the "Applications" folder in Mac OS X or from the "Start" menu on Windows.

    • 2). Buy an iPod-compatible video. Click "iTunes Store" in the left-hand column of the iTunes software. Select "Movies" in the top menu bar of the store to browse, purchase and download an iPod-compatible movie, TV show, video podcast or music video from the iTunes store.

    • 3). Use your own video file if you don't want to buy one from the iTunes store. Drag the file to the iTunes screen to add it to your iTunes library. Click it and select "Advanced" in the top menu bar. Choose "Convert Selection for iPod" from the drop-down menu bar to convert the video into an iPod-compatible file. This process may take several hours, depending on the speed of your computer processor and the size of the original video file.

    • 4). Connect the iPod Video to your computer using its original Apple USB cable. Plug one end of the cable into the bottom slot in the iPod, and insert the opposite end into a powered USB port on your computer. Avoid using an extension port, such as a USB port on your keyboard or on a USB hub.

    • 5). Wait for the iPod to sync with iTunes. Syncing begins automatically upon connecting the device to your computer with iTunes open. The software will transfer the video to your iPod Video device. Upon completion, eject the iPod by clicking the eject icon next to the iPod's name on the left-hand side of iTunes.

    • 6). Click "Videos" in the home screen of your iPod and select the movie file you've just transferred to watch it on your iPod.
