How to Make Free Lanyard Keychains
- 1). Cut your craft lace strands to an equal length with the scissors. You can make about an inch or so of weaved lanyard out of every foot of craft lace.
- 2). Slide the key ring onto the two strands and fold the strands in half evenly, with the key ring in the middle. Hold the strands in your hand, making a cross shape with them with one strand on top of the other. Let the key ring dangle.
- 3). Take one end of the bottom overlapped strand and make a small loop by pulling that end over the middle where the two strands cross. Hold it in place with one finger and your thumb.Take the opposite end of the same strand and form a second loop by folding it over the middle and hold it in place. You will have two parallel loops over the middle section of the strands.
- 4). Take the right end of the second colored strand and weave it over the right loop in the middle and pull it under the left loop, pulling it to the left. Weave the left end of the strand over the left loop and pull it under the right loop, pulling it to the right. This makes a small square weave.
- 5). Pull the strands tight to secure the stitch. Continue making stitches using the same technique until your key chain is as long as you want it. You will see the checkerboard pattern develop as you go. Smooth out your strands before pulling them tight to keep them from becoming twisted.
- 6). Leave the last stitch loose in order to finish your lanyard key chain. Take one strand and slide it into the nearest right loop and pull the strand out through the middle of the weave. Do this with the other three strands. Pull them all tight to secure the end of your project. Trim the end strands with the scissors if you need to.
