How to Dye Muslin With Tea
- 1). Fill a sink with water and submerge the muslin fabric so that it becomes completely soaked.
- 2). Fill a large pot about halfway with water and put it on the stove. Bring the water to a boil. The muslin fabric will be going directly into the pot, so take into account how much room the muslin will take up in the pot.
- 3). Tie together several black tea bags. The more tea bags you tie together, the darker the fabric will be. Place these tea bags into the water and let them steep for about 30 minutes in water that's boiling or just below boiling.
- 4). Turn off the stove and remove the tea bags.
- 5). Wring out your wet fabric and add it carefully to the pot with the hot tea mixture. Submerge the fabric into the pot with a wooden spoon.
- 6). Let the fabric sit in the tea mixture for at least an hour or even overnight. The longer you let the fabric sit in the tea mixture, the darker the fabric will become.
- 7). Hold the muslin under a cold water tap until the water runs clear.
- 8). Hand wash the fabric with a mild detergent in cold water and rinse again.
- 9). Hang the muslin until it's completely dry.
