How to Make Your Own Hassle-Free Clothes
- 1). Find a simple garment in your closet that fits you well. Pick a T-shirt or a shift dress without any buttons or zippers.
- 2). Fold a piece of the fabric in half on a flat surface with the wrong side facing toward you. Lay your garment on top of the fabric and smooth out the garment.
- 3). Trace the outline of the garment using fabric chalk about 1-1/2 inches out from the garment onto the fabric. The 1-1/2 inch gap will be the seam allowance.
- 4). Remove the garment. Fold the fabric in half to ensure the garment is symmetric and cut on the lines you drew on the fabric.
- 5). Pin the front and back pieces of the pattern together using straight pins. Make sure the wrong side of the fabric is facing outward in both the front and back.
- 6). Lay the fabric on the sewing machine and sew down one side of the garment using a 1-1/2 inch seam allowance. Sew down the opposite side as well as the shoulders of the dress until all seams are complete.
- 7). Fold the fabric around the neck of the dress slightly under and hem it. Do the same for the arm holes and the bottom of the dress.
- 8). Turn the fabric right side out to wear.
