How to Cut Laminate Floors With a Jig Saw

    • 1). Mark the cutting line on the laminate using a grease pencil. On loose boards, make the marking on the rear of the board.

    • 2). Measure the depth of the laminate flooring with a ruler. Set the jigsaw for the flooring depth.

    • 3). Place loose laminate boards, face side down onto a piece of plywood. Cut boards from the rear whenever possible to avoid chipping along the cut edge. Use the plywood both as a support piece for the laminate, as well as a protective surface to avoid scratches in the face of the laminate as you make your cuts.

    • 4). Align the blade of the saw with the marked cutting line. Pull the saw trigger and then direct the blade along the line, cutting through the board until you reach the board’s end.

    • 5). Cut curves in the board using the jigsaw by marking the curve needed onto the flooring with the grease pencil, then drilling a hole using an electric drill with a 1/2-inch bit along the inside edge of the drawn line. Place the jigsaw blade through the hole, and then cut along the remainder of the drawn line to complete curves or circles.

    • 6). Cut through laminate flooring already in place on the floor using the same process used for curved cuts. Create a starter point with the drill bit. Set the depth of the saw blade to the depth of the flooring, and then slip the jigsaw blade through the hole in the laminate and complete the cut.
