How to Make Screen Doors
- 1). Measure the height and width of the inside of the door frame the screen will be installed in with a measuring tape.
- 2). Cut pieces of ¼ inch-by-¾ inch lumber to the appropriate lengths to create the frame for the screen with a circular saw. You will need two pieces for the height and two for the width.
- 3). Trim the corners to the correct shape with a miter saw at a 45-degree angle. The wood should be placed so it is ¾-inch wide and ¼-inch tall.
- 4). Assemble the frame to create a rectangle the same shape as the door frame. Use a speed square to make sure the rectangle is set at the correct angles.
- 5). Glue the pieces with wood glue and clamp them together with 'C' clamps. Let the glue dry for several hours and remove the clamps.
- 6). Unroll the aluminum screen over the entire frame.
- 7). Staple the screen along the top face of the screen door with a staple gun, securing it in place. The staples should be inserted onto the surface that is facing upward. Pull the screen taught and staple down each length of the door and finally along the bottom. Use scissors to trim away the excess screen until there is nothing hanging over.
- 8). Fix door trim onto the face of the door. The trim should cover the edges of the screen and the staples holding it in place. Use a hammer to offset nails through the trim and into the door frame.
- 9). Apply finish to the screen door and let it dry.

Attach hinges to the door frame where you want to hang the screen door. Fix the door onto the hinges, with the trimmed side facing the outside. - 11
Fix a long door brace to the door to maintain the square shape with a screwdriver and screws. Set one end of the door brace in the top, inside corner near the hinges and the other end in the bottom, exterior corner near the jamb.
