Can I Charge My iPad With My iPod Cable?
- The docks for the iPad, iPod Nano, Classic and Touch are the same, so you can use the chargers from these iPods to charge your iPad. However, the iPod Shuffle uses a different charger than the other iPods and it is not compatible with an iPad dock. Therefore, if you only have an iPod Shuffle, you will have to use an iPad charger to charge your iPad.
- You can charge your iPad using your iPod cable in the same way you would charge the iPod itself. Plug the USB cable into your computer and then plug the other end into the iPad dock. The charge symbol should show on the iPad's battery display at the top of the screen. Alternatively, if you have a power adapter for your iPod, plug the end of the cable into the iPad's dock and the adapter into a wall socket.
- There are advantages to using your iPod cable to charge your iPad, especially if you are traveling and can take a limited number of items. Since both devices share the same dock, you only need one USB cable to charge your iPad and your iPod, and you can also charge both devices using your computer or laptop if you don't have access to a power adapter or wall socket.
- The iPod charges using the provided USB cable, which you can connect to your computer, or using a power adapter, which connects to a standard AC outlet; you can purchase the adapter for an additional cost. These both provide less power than the 10-watt iPad adapter. You can still use the USB cable or the iPod power adapter to charge your iPad, but the lower power means it will take longer to reach a full charge than it would if you were using the iPad power adapter.
