- 1). Place a pair of flip-flops or comfortable sandals on top of a piece of 1/4-inch-thick foam padding. Trace around the soles of the flip-flops or sandals with a piece of chalk and cut out the shapes. Trace and cut a second pair of soles from another piece of 1/4-inch-thick foam padding. Put this second set aside to use later.
- 2). Place the remaining pair of foam padding soles on the floor and stand on the soles. Make a small dot in between your big and second toes. Make a small slit through the dot on each sole with a small, thin knife.
- 3). Slide a piece of 5/8-inch-wide grosgrain ribbon through each slit from the top of the soles. Place your feet on the soles and wrap the ribbons above the slit around your big toes, underneath the soles and over your other toes. Slide the other end of the ribbons into the same slit in the soles.
- 4). Tie the ends of the ribbon in knots and cut off the excess ribbon about one-inch past the knots. Apply hot glue to the knots and one inch of ribbons and press the ribbons against the underside of the sole to attach.
- 5). Cut two 48-inch-long pieces of 5/8-inch-wide grosgrain ribbon and fold each piece of ribbon in half. Apply glue to each fold and about 1/2-inch on either side of each fold. Press the glued sections to the underside of the heel of each sole.
- 6). Spread hot glue over the underside of each sole. Press the other set of soles firmly against the hot glue to make two-layer soles.
- 7). Slide your feet into the ribbons at the toe of the sandals. Wrap the ribbons at the heels around your ankles and continue to wrap the ribbons all the way up to just underneath your knees. Tie the ribbon ends in bows.
