How to Create an Interlocking Hearts Love Chain
- 1). Cut 20 3-inch long strips of red ribbon. Cut two 30-inch long strips of green ribbon.
- 2). Cut off 1/2-inch strips of tape. Tape the right and left side of one end of a 3-inch-long red ribbon strip, placing half of the tape on the ribbon and letting the other half remain exposed. Attach tape to the rest of the red ribbon strips in the same manner.
- 3). Pick up one red ribbon. Bring the ends together to make a heart-like shape with the ribbon. Fold the pieces of tape over onto the other end of ribbon and press it down to tape the heart together. Slide a red ribbon through the side of the heart shape. Bring the ends to the new ribbon together to make a heart shape. Fold the tape over onto the other end of the ribbon and press it down. Continue making the heart chain by sliding a new strip into the top heart of the chain and bringing the ribbon ends together and taping the heart shut. The heart chain will interlock in a way that makes the position of the top of the hearts alternate between facing the top and facing the side as you create the chain.
- 4). Cut a 1-inch piece of tape and make a circle with it, with the sticky side facing out. Apply the tape onto the end of a 30-inch green ribbon. Insert the taped end into the top heart loop of the the heart chain. Press the taped side against the inner ribbon surface of the loop to hold it in place. Insert the opposite end of the green ribbon into the other side of the first heart and pull it through to cover up the taped ends of the heart. Weave the green ribbon in and out of the hearts that have their tops facing the same direction-- the ribbon will be threaded into and out of every other red heart and will appear to have two loops of red ribbon or one heart top between each section it is threaded into. Trim the ribbon when you get to the last heart that is facing the same direction and tape it to the interior of the last heart.
- 5). Place a piece of tape onto the end of the other 30-inch green ribbon. Tape the ribbon to the bottom heart of the chain. Insert the opposite end of the ribbon into the top loop of the bottom heart and pull it through. Insert the ribbon into the bottom of the same heart and weave it through. The green ribbon will be woven through all of the hearts that are facing the same way, which should be on the opposite side from those that you wove green ribbon through first. Trim the end of the green ribbon and tape it to the last heart that is facing the same direction as the one you started with in this step.
