How to Outfit a Powder Room
- 1). Provide adequate lighting for checking makeup. Install the light switch in a spot that's easy to find.
- 2). Equip the sink with a faucet that functions smoothly and efficiently, and does not splash water.
- 3). Make sure the mirror is large and well-lit.
- 4). Install a ventilation fan to remove moisture and odors.
- 5). Provide fresh towels.
- 6). Set out a dish of mild potpourri and, when guests are expected, burn a candle with a scent compatible to the potpourri.
- 7). Deck the window in a treatment that maintains privacy but admits light.
- 8). Leave floors bare, if possible, to avoid a tripping hazard. If you do use a rug, be sure it grips the floor snugly; a latex-backed mat is a good choice.
- 9). Minimize accessories - powder rooms are usually small, and a guest could inadvertently knock a fragile item over - but remember that a small vase of fresh flowers or a potted plant is a welcome touch.
- 10
Provide facial tissue. - 11
Place a stash of spare toilet paper where guests can find it easily. When guests are expected, check the roll on the dispenser to make sure it's not low. - 12
Keep the powder room gender neutral. - 13
Offer thoughtful amenities - mouthwash, disposable cups, hand lotion - if you have enough space.
