    • 1). Unbend a paperclip. Open one of the plantation shutters. Set the straight paperclip between the tight hinge's flaps and close the shutter. This stretches the shutter's hinge slightly so it opens a bit and allows the plantation shutter to hang evenly. If the shutter requires more of an adjustment, move onto Step 2.

    • 2). Back out the screws that secure one end of the plantation shutter's hanging strip to the wall with a drill and a Phillips head driving bit. Move the hanging strip's end either forward or backward until the shutter hangs evenly. Drive the screw through the hanging strip's pilot hole and into the wall at its new location.

    • 3). Locate the small access hole on the plantation shutter's edge. Each shutter has its own access hole. Insert a small Phillips head screwdriver into the access hole. Turn the screwdriver 1/10-inch clockwise to tighten the louvers. Repeat on the other shutter. Continue to alternate tightening the shutters' louvers until they stay in place when you release the louver adjustment bar.
