How to Hook Up an iPod Directly to a Car Radio
- 1). Connect your FM transmitter to your iPod using either the dock or the headphones port, depending on your model.
- 2). Set the dial on your FM transmitter to an FM frequency. Choose the clearest, most unoccupied frequency you can find in your area. For example, if 99.1 FM broadcasts a clear radio station, but 89.5 FM gives you only faint static, choose 89.5 FM as your frequency.
- 3). Turn on your vehicle and tune your radio to the same frequency as your FM transmitter. Make sure your radio is set for "FM."
- 4). Press "Play" on your iPod and test your signal. Your iPod music should broadcast clearly through your car speakers.
- 5). Turn your FM transmitter and your car radio to a different frequency if you fail to achieve a clear signal with your first frequency. For example, if 89.5 FM gives you poor sound quality, try 89.7 FM. Experiment with different frequencies until you find one that gives you crystal-clear sound quality.
- 6). Place your iPod in a spot close to your car radio, such as in a cup holder or in a special iPod holder on your dashboard.
