    Download the Software

    • The iPod is designed to work with a special software program known as iTunes. This software program is standard on all Apple computers, but if you have a Windows computer, you can download this software for free from Apple's website. Navigate to the official iTunes website (see the Resource section) and click the "Download now" button. Once the download is finished, install the program on your computer.

    Connect the iPod

    • Each iPod comes bundled with a sync cable, which allows you to charge it directly from your computer. After making sure the computer is turned on, plug the long skinny end of the sync cable into the bottom of the iPod and then plug the USB end into a USB 2.0 port. A "Charging" icon will appear on the iPod screen.

Wait for the Charge to Finish

    • When the charging icon appears, it will also be a certain color: Red means that there is less than 10 percent charge remaining, yellow means there is between 10 to 50 percent charge remaining, and green means the charge is above 50 percent. Most iPods take between two to three hours to charge using a computer. If you have a newer model iPod, it should show the exact percentage of charge. Once your iPod has finished charging to 100 percent, unplug it. You should not charge your iPod unless it has less than a 50 percent charge to prevent battery malfunction.
