- 1). Soak up as much of the stain as possible with paper towels. Do not rub the stain, as this could spread it.
- 2). Mix 1 cup warm water with 1/4 tsp. liquid dishwashing detergent. Do not use laundry detergent, as this contains fragrances that will leave a residue on your carpet. Do not use detergents that contain bleach, as these can change your carpet's color.
- 3). Apply the solution to the Lysol stain with a clean cloth. Dab the stain gently, and do not rub it. Rubbing will only spread the stain. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center to avoid it spreading.
- 4). Apply a spot dry cleaning solution to a clean cloth if the Lysol stain is still visible. Never pour dry cleaning solution directly onto carpets, as it can destroy the carpet backing.
- 5). Blot the spot dry cleaning solution onto the stain to remove it completely.
- 6). Mist the area with clear water from a spray bottle. This will help rinse out all of the dry cleaning and soap solutions.
- 7). Blot up the water with a clean cloth.
- 8). Repeat the rinsing and blotting steps until you've removed all of the solutions.
- 9). Dry the carpet completely with a clean towel.
