How to Make a Handmade Envelope
- 1). Use the ruler and pencil to measure and draw a square shape on the paper. If you start with an 8-inch square, you will make a 5.5-inch square envelope. Experiment with different-sized squares to create an assortment of envelope sizes. Cut the square out that you draw.
- 2). Place the square onto a flat work surface so that it looks like a diamond. If there is a pattern, picture or design on the paper that you want visible on the outside of the envelope, place this side of the paper facing down.
- 3). Find the center point of the square and make a small mark at this point. Bring up the bottom corner of the square so the point of the corner meets the center point. Crease this fold.
- 4). Bring the right corner in to the center point and crease this fold. Repeat with the left corner. Both right and left corners should meet in the center. Secure these first three folds by gluing with the glue stick to hold the corners in place.
- 5). Fold the top corner down toward the center point. You can make this fold so that the top corner meets the other corners precisely, or you can overlap the top corner by as much as 1 inch, depending on how large you want your envelope to be. Crease this fold.
- 6). Place the card or letter into the envelope.
- 7). Apply a line of glue along the top diagonal edges of the left and right folded sides of paper and glue the top flap of the envelope in place. Press firmly to ensure the paper adheres.
- 8). Turn the envelope over and address your envelope.
