    • 1). Remove the existing finish on the floor by sanding it or using a chemical stripper.

    • 2). Mix the bleach in a plastic bucket following the directions on the label. Wear safety goggles and make sure that all of your skin is covered in case you spill any of the bleach. Keep an extra bucket of water nearby to wash the bleach away in case you spill some on yourself.

    • 3). Apply the bleach solution to the floor with a brush or synthetic sponge. Apply the solution evenly to the surface of the wood, making sure that the floor is thoroughly covered with the bleach. Was the sponge or brush out in a bucket of clean water several times as you bleach the floor to prevent contaminating the bleach.

    • 4). Allow the bleach to dry. This usually takes about 24 hours, but follow the directions on the manufacturer's label to make sure.

    • 5). Bleach the floor again if necessary.

    • 6). Dispose of the bleach following government regulations. Check with your state or local government to earn the proper disposal methods.
