Broder Shelving Installation
- 1). Locate the edges of the studs in the area of the wall where you are installing the shelving with a stud finder. Mark the edges on the wall with pencil marks.
- 2). Place one of the standards for the shelves onto the wall between the marks for the studs and mark the location of the top screw in the standard. The standards are the strips attached to the wall that hold the shelf brackets.
- 3). Drill pilot holes at the marks for the screw holes with a 1/8-inch drill bit.
- 4). Place the first shelf standard into position on the wall and attach it to the wall by driving a 2 1/2-inch screw through the top screw hole in the standard and into the pilot hole.
- 5). Place a 4-foot level on the wall against the standard. Straighten the standard until it is plumb (vertically straight), then drill a 1/8-inch pilot hole through the bottom screw hole. Attach the bottom of the standard with a 2 1/2-inch screw.
- 6). Install the second shelf standard using the same technique on a stud 32 inches away from the first standard. Install the standard so that it's even with the top of the first standard. Install a third standard between the two if the shelving will hold heavy objects.
- 7). Insert the shelf brackets into the standards at the desired height. The brackets are the extensions that the shelves sit on.
- 8). Lay the shelves on top of the brackets. Screw the shelves to the brackets through the holes in the sides of the brackets.
