How to Tie a Loop Knot in Knitting
- 1). Make a loop knot by looping a length of the yarn into a circle. Usually, about 8 inches works well. Make sure the loose end is on top.
- 2). Lift the loop, gently, high enough to allow you to put your fingers into the loop. Grab the end of the yarn that is attached to the skein or hank and pull it through enough to allow you to insert the tip of your needle past the taper of the needle.
- 3). Insert the tip of the needle into the loop. Pull on the ends of the yarn to tighten the loop. The loop knot is complete. You can now cast on your remaining stitches. Remember to count the loop knot as the first stitch, so if your patterns calls for you to cast on 100 stitches, after forming the loop knot, you will cast on 99 more stitches. Work the loop knot as a normal stitch.
