Use heavy, bright or dark colored paper (construction paper or art paper), and photos or illustrations cut from magazines or calendars. Pick images that reflect personal interests, holiday symbols, or even images that hint at the gift inside. Cut around the edges of the image using a sharp scissors. Glue to a background that shows off the image. Write your message on the colored background using a fine point metallic marker or white pencil. Use double stick tape or a spot of glue to hold the tag to your gift. - a simple, but personal gift tag
Cut out initials from colored paper, and glue them to one end of a rectangle of plain card or heavy paper in a contrasting color. Find interesting heavy paper in art supply stores or even office supply stores. Fold the rectangle in half. Snip a small triangle out of the fold, and thread ribbon or yarn through it to tie your gift tag to the package. Write your message inside. - a cut out element from Christmas paper, on plain white card
Gift tags made from wrapping paper are easy to make and are guaranteed to match your package. Gift-wrap is usually flimsier than you want a gift tag to be. Fix this by gluing it to a piece of stiffer material. Index cards, card stock, or the blank part of an old greeting card all work for this. You can cover the whole card with gift paper, or cut out one design and glue it to a plain background. They can be folded and you can write on the plain card inside, or you can write on the plain background of the unfolded version.
