How to Remove Metal Windows
- 1). Cut through the paint around the outside border of the window, exposing a gap between the window and the house. Use a utility knife and perform this on both the interior and exterior of the house.
- 2). Apply two layers of masking or painter's tape to the glass on the window, both interior and exterior. Doing so will prevent the glass from cracking when the window is pulled out.
- 3). Remove the trim around the window with a hammer and small pry bar. Pry the trim off in small increments to avoid damaging them, in the case they will be reused.
- 4). Cut through the retaining nails along the outer edge of the window with a reciprocating saw equipped with a metal-cutting blade. This is done from the exterior side of the window. Use the gap you exposed with the utility knife as a guide where to insert the saw and cut.
- 5). Hammer the pry bar into the gaps between the frame of the window and the house's studs. Gradually pry the metal window out of the framing.
