How to Defrag Virtual Memory in Vista
- 1). Go to your Start menu and click "Control Panel."
- 2). Click "Advanced System Settings" on the top left of the window, where you find the blue navigation panel.
- 3). Click the "Settings" button in the "Performance" box.
- 4). Click the "Advanced" tab.
- 5). Click on the "Change" button.
- 6). Select another volume besides your system volume and select the "System managed size" option. Click "Set" when you finish. Your system volume is the disk drive or part of the disk drive where you find your operating system and "Windows" folder.
- 7). Select your system volume and choose the "No page file" option.
- 8). Click "OK" and restart your computer.
- 9). Go to your Start menu, click "All Programs," click "Accessories," click "System Tools" and click on "Disk Defragmenter."

Select your system volume and click the "Defragment" button. - 11
Repeat steps one to eight but select your system volume in step six and another volume in step seven. Your virtual memory should appear now as one entire file instead of a fragmented one.
