    • 1). Double-click "Computer" on the desktop, or select it from the "Start" menu. Open the C: drive and navigate to the i386 folder.

    • 2). Double-click "Winnt32.exe" within the i386 folder to launch the Windows Setup utility.

    • 3). The system will reboot. Enter your Windows Product Key to continue with the recovery.

    • 4). Select "Upgrade" or "Custom" when prompted for the installation preference. An upgrade will simply replace the Windows system files on your computer, leaving your personal data intact. A custom installation allows you to erase the hard drive and install a completely fresh copy of Windows on your HP computer. Choose the appropriate recovery option.

    • 5). Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation. If you selected "Custom," you will be asked for your region, time format, computer name and other details to complete the setup. When finished, the HP computer will reboot into the newly recovered Windows operating system.
