How to Use Beadboard for a Headboard
- 1). Measure the width of the bed, and the height from the floor to where you want the top of the headboard to end. The average height would be about three feet higher than your bed, but it's up to you and your tastes.
- 2). Take the measurements to your local home improvement store, and ask them to cut the board to those dimensions. Also purchase lengths of molding to fit those dimensions. Ask that they be cut with 45- degree angles to frame the section of beadboard.
- 3). Use a latex paint and primer to cover the beadboard in a color that complements your decor, or use a stain and polyurethane for a more natural look.
- 4). Remove the baseboards along the wall that your bed rests against. Run a utility knife across the top of the baseboard to make a clean cut through the paint. Slowly pry the baseboard off the wall with a putty knife.
- 5). Find the studs in the area of wall you are covering by using a drywall punch to locate them where the baseboard was just removed. Mark your studs with a pencil.
- 6). Apply wall panel adhesive in small spots every 6 inches on the wall-facing side of the beadboard panel. Place the panel on the wall, and apply pressure with your hands to secure it. Place it above the marks you have made for your studs.
- 7). Use nails along the outermost studs to keep the panel in place. Any nails you place towards the center of the panel will not be covered by your molding and will show.
- 8). Place your molding around your panel, covering the nails along your edges. Use your nail gun to place nails every 6 to 8 inches to be sure they stay in place. Move your bed in front of the panel.
