How to Make Gathered Curtains Without Shirring
- 1). Cut a piece of fabric to the width of your window plus 10 inches and the length of the window plus five inches. Cut one piece of fabric for each panel and one lining with the same dimensions.
- 2). Face the right sides of the lining and fabric together. Sew the two pieces of fabric together using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Leave a small gap in the seam
- 3). Pull the fabric inside out. Fold the top edge down about four inches. Sew the edge down using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Sew the leftover opening in the side seam closed.
- 4). Slide the curtain rod into the curtain pocket. Place two panels onto each rod. This will create a gathered curtain look. When the curtains are closed the gathers will be slightly less than when the curtains are opened, but the curtains will always appear gathered to some degree.
